Susan Burden - Athletic Academic Advisor

DSC 0055College sports can, indeed, complement and broaden the educational experiences of college athletes and at MACC academics is a number one priority. Susan Burden is entering her fifth year as the Athletic Academic Advisor for the Greyhound Basketball Program at Moberly Area Community College. Her duties include advising male and female student-athletes, registering players for classes and keeping them on pace to meet graduation requirements for their desired college major, monitoring study hall sessions, working closely with the coaching staff as it relates to NJCAA eligibility issues, assisting student-athletes with the transfer process, and working with fellow faculty regarding student-athletes academic performance. Many players call her “mom” for good reason. Susan is committed to looking out for student-athletes and making sure they stay on track.

It’s true that many times life values such as determination, sacrifice, courage, and teamwork can more easily be learned through athletic competition than in the classroom, but Susan stresses the importance of balancing academics with athletics to make the student-athletes’ two years at MACC a truly rewarding and memorable journey.
