Carnethia Brown and Anisha George, who finished as two of the top three scorers this past season for the MACC women’s basketball program and helped guide the Greyhound Women to a 23-8 overall mark and second place finish in the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference, were recently selected as two of the top 40 NJCAA student-athletes who will participate in the 9th Annual NJCAA Coaches Association All-Star Weekend to be held July 21-24 in Niceville, Florida.

Brown, a 5-6 guard, led the team in scoring at 10.3 points per game, assists with 3.2 per contest, and three point field goal percentage as she made 34.2 percent of her attempts. She was named first team All-Region 16 and first team All-MCCAC this past season, while leading MACC in scoring nine times and assists in 17 games. Brown improved her scoring in MCCAC action as she averaged 13.7 points against conference opponents.

George, a 6-2 post, was third on the team in scoring with 8.8 points per game and second on the team in rebounding with 6.2 rebounds per contest. She was named second team All-MCCAC and finished the season shooting 61.5 percent, which ranked as the 10th best field goal percentage in the nation. George also finished 43rd in the country in total blocked shots with 44 for an average of 1.4 blocks per game.

“This will be a great opportunity for Carnethia and Anisha to play in front of four-year college coaches over the summer,” said MACC head coach Chad Killinger. “When they were nominated I was just hoping that one of them would be selected and I was very happy when I received invitations for both of them. This will be a valuable experience for them as it will provide them with a chance to compete against some of the best players in the sophomore class and I look forward to seeing how they do.”

Brown and George become the third and fourth Greyhound Women’s players to be selected to participate in the all-star event in the past four years, joining Alexis Robinson, who was selected following the 2013-2014 season before signing with Coastal Carolina University, and Romekia Wallace, who signed with the University of Nebraska-Omaha earlier this spring.
