Draw #23 Seed, Opens play Monday evening

MACC's Men’s Basketball Team, champions of NJCAA Region XVI and District IV, was seeded #23 and will play Indian Hills in their opening game. The Greyhounds will play their opponent from Ottumwa, Iowa at 8:30 pm on Monday evening in the last game of the day. Moberly and Indian Hills have played twice this season with Indian Hills winning both contests, 57-56 at Moberly on a tip in with 6 seconds remaining and 108-78 at Indian Hills. The Warriors were the #10 seed with Trinity Valley CC (Texas) receiving the top seed of the tournament and Northwest Florida the #2 seed. The winner of the Moberly-Indian Hills contest will play tournament host Hutchinson CC in the second round on Wednesday.

“We’re really excited to be back at Hutch,” said Coach Patrick Smith, “The journey we have taken to get there makes it even more special. We have great respect for Indian Hills, but our players are excited to play them. We drew a low seed, which didn’t surprise me, but I do know we’ve played a lot better the last 6 games than that seeding signifies. We are the best we’ve been all season by far, our players are confident and we look forward to improving this week and making the journey to Hutch. I know our players are excited to get our college, fans and community back there.”

Smith said the team will be leaving at 8:30 am on Sunday morning from the MACC Activity Center. They will be staying, as mandated by the NJCAA, at the Super 8 Motel in Hutchinson (620-663-7822).
