Host Planet Academy in Vulcan Systems Classic

11/3/2016
The Moberly Area Community College Men’s Basketball Team will open their 2016-17 season in the Vulcan Systems Classic on Nov. 4-5 at the MACC Activity Center.  The Greyhounds will play Planet Academy on Friday at 7:00 PM preceded by the first game of the classic between Southwestern Illinois CC and Iowa Lakes CC at 5 pm. On Saturday, MACC will play Iowa Lakes at 7 pm following a 5 pm contest between Southwestern Illinois and Planet Academy.

“I know our players are very excited about starting the season,” commented Coach Patrick Smith, “We concluded our conditioning program in September, our pre-season practice in October and now it’s on to the games. I really like the potential of this team, what we can be but the most important thing to me as a coach is how we play the process out; what are we going to do every day to improve both individually and collectively as a team. We want to be a good team early and hopefully that will start this weekend.  We are so appreciative to Floyd Riley and Vulcan Systems for their sponsorship of this classic, bringing quality Jr. College Basketball the opening weekend of the season and the great booster/college support we receive here at MACC.”

The Hounds return four players from last season’s NJCAA Region16 champions, NJCAA District IV Title and NJCAA Sweet 16 appearance.  The four returnees are 6’8” forward Quattarius Wilson, 6’7” post DeMarco Owens, 6’6” forward Leonard Harper-Baker and 6’1” guard Chauncey Turner.  They are joined by transfers Mar’Qywell Jackson(6’5” guard, DuQuesne University), 6’10” post Dietrich Cole(Jacksonville State), Delfincko Bogan(5’9” guard, Jacksonville State), Brandon Better(6’2” wing, Hagrestown CC) and Jabari Antwine(6’1” guard, Black Hawk East).    Also on the roster are freshman Dallas Morgan(6’1” guard, Peoria, Illinois), 6’6” forward Tyree Whitre(St. Louis, Mo.), 6’3” wing Trey Owens (Peoria, Ill.), 6’1” guard Anthony McIntosh(Grand Rapids, Michigan), 6’7” forward Austin Trice(Chicago, Illinois) and 5’11” guard Trevion Moore(Sikeston, Mo.).  6’6” Moberly High School graduate Will Rucker will be redshirting this season recovering from a knee injury.
