MACC improve to 18-0 with opening region win

The #4 Nationally ranked Greyhound's Men’s Basketball Team defeated Three Rivers CC 88-77 Saturday evening at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena in their opening NJCAA Region 16 contest. Moberly jumped out to an early 23-10 lead behind three pointers by guard Delfinkco Bogan. After Three Rivers trimmed the lead to 29-24, Moberly rallied behind sophomore guard Brandon Better to lead 50-36 at the half.

The lead never got below 8 points the second half as Moberly held off Three Rivers behind the strong offensive player of wing Mar’Qywell Jackson. Jackson led Moberly in scoring with 24 points (8-9 from the FT line), Bogan had 20 points and Better added 15 points. Three Rivers was led in scoring by sophomore guard Cameron Reedus with 25 points while Gabe Grant had 21 points and Terrance Parker with 12 points.

Moberly improved to 18-0 with the victory and also 1-0 in Region 16 competition, as well as 2-0 in the MCCAC Conference. Three Rivers dropped to 15-5 and 1-2 in region 16. “We came out really strong and set the tempo early vs. a very good Three Rivers club,” said Coach Patrick Smith

“Our region is simply by far the best I have seen in my eight seasons in Region 16. Three Rivers did a good job of hanging in there the second half but I’m proud of our guys for getting enough defensive stops and scoring enough to keep the margin relatively comfortable. Now it’s onto the next game and staying in the present.”
