#4 Nationally ranked Greyhounds improve record to 17-0

The Greyhound Men defeated St. Louis Community College 68-65 by hanging on to secure victory in a game that was close throughout. St. Louis came out hot from three point range to grab a 25-18 lead, but Moberly closed to within one point down at the half. After Moberly stretched the lead to 49-38 with 9 minutes remaining, they could not get further separation and STCLL got to within a bucket with 40 seconds remaining. After Leonard Harper-Baker hit one of two free throws, St. Louis CC missed a three pointer at the end with the Greyhounds securing the rebound to close out the win.

Harper-Baker, a 6’6” sophomore, led Moberly in scoring with 21 points and 17 rebounds while 6’7” sophomore DeMarco Owens had 11 points,10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Rigmaiden led St. Louis in scoring with 24 points, and Simms added 14 points. The 4th nationally ranked Moberly Greyhounds improved their record to 17-0 while St. Louis dropped to 9-6 on the season.

“It was definitely a struggle in that we had to perservere all night to gain the win,” said Moberly Coach Patrick Smith, “I give St. Louis CC a lot of credit for that, in that Coach Collins had his team prepared. They played and shot very well and came in here to win. With that said, I thought we won on a night we didn’t play extremely well. You have to just find a way to win some nights when things aren’t going your way. I’m proud of our players for finding a way to gain the win.”

Moberly moves to 1-0 in the MCCAC Conference. They return to action as they begin Region 16 play Saturday night against Three Rivers at the Fitzsimmons-John Arena. Tip off is 7:00 pm.
