Battle of ranked, undefeated teams

The MACC Men's Basketball unbeaten streak came to an end as they were defeated by Mineral Area College 66-58 in NJCAA Region 16 play. Both team put their perfect records on the line Saturday night.

The MAC Cardinals jumped out to a 10-2 lead before Moberly came back to grab a 26-25 halftime lead on a last second three pointer by Leonard Harper-Baker. After grabbing an early 31-27 lead to start the second half, Moberly saw MAC go on a 10-2 run and gain a lead they would not relinquish. Moberly pulled within 60-55 with less than a minute remaining but could get no closer. The last 31 minutes of the contest was played without a shot clock as there was a malfunction and the officials decided to do without any type of shot clock timer.

Moberly was led in scoring by Brandon Better with 14 points while Mar’Qywell Jackson and Jabari Antwine added 13 points each. Roundtree and Thompson led Mineral Area in scoring with 13 points apiece while Culbertson, Thomas and Diallo scored 10 points each.

“It was definetly a strange game without the use of the shot clock,” said Moberly Coach Patrick Smith, “however, Mineral Area was the better team this night. I needed to have had us better prepared, coached better and we needed to execute better on both sides of the ball. I give Mineral Area a lot of credit for dominating the

tempo of game, even though it was strange to see possessions of over a minute each, but we needed to play better. We need to learn from this as we move into definitely the hardest part of our schedule.”
