wallace smRomekia Wallace, who helped lead a freshman laden MACC women’s basketball team to an 18-14 overall record and tie for second place in the NJCAA Region 16 regular season standings this past season, was recently selected as one of the top 40 NJCAA student-athletes who will participate in the 8th Annual NJCAA Coaches Association All-Star Weekend to be held July 21-24 in Niceville, Florida.

Wallace averaged 14.0 points per game and led the Greyhound Women in rebounding with 10.1 rebounds per contest, while being named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association honorable mention All-American and first team All-Region 16 selection. She ranked 32nd in the country in rebounding average and 42nd in field goal percentage, making 54.3 percent of her attempts. Wallace led MACC in rebounding in 22 of the 25 games she appeared in and led the team in scoring on seven occasions. She recorded 10 double-doubles during her freshman campaign, while reaching double figures in scoring in 20 games.

“I am extremely happy to see Romekia receive this recognition,” said MACC head coach Chad Killinger. “This will be a great opportunity for her to play in front of some four-year college coaches this summer and compete against some of the best players in the country. We have worked on expanding her game throughout the postseason and look forward to seeing her apply some of those skills. This should be a valuable experience for her and something that she can look back on one day with a lot of pride.”

Wallace is the second Greyhound Women’s player to be selected to participate in the all-star event in the past three years, joining Alexis Robinson, who was selected following the 2013-2014 season before signing with Coastal Carolina University, where she will be a senior this upcoming school year.
