The 11th ranked Moberly Area Community College women’s basketball team traveled to Park Hills, MO for two games over the New Year’s holiday and picked up a pair of victories.

On Monday, MACC led Northwest Mississippi 36-24 at halftime before holding the Lady Rangers to just one field goal in the third quarter and to just two points over the final nine minutes of the contest as they won 68-34.

Anisha George put together a dominating 21 point, 18 rebound performance as she registered her fifth double-double of the season. Carnethia Brown was the high scorer for the Lady Greyhounds with 22 points, she also had seven rebounds and five steals. Jocelyn Taylor finished with nine points.

“We struggled a little bit offensively in this game,” said MACC head coach Chad Killinger. “But, we’ve been able to rely on our defense for the better part of the season and that mindset really got us going in the second half. We were able to turn defensive stops into quick points and just slowly pulled away.”

In the second game of the classic MACC led Malcolm X College, who they defeated earlier this season by 71 points, 18-9 early in the second quarter when a 27-0 run all put decided the outcome of the game as the Lady Greyhounds led 51-12 at the half. Over the course of the second and third quarters MACC outscored Malcolm X 58-8 as they cruised to a 90-26 win and held their counterpart to just one field goal in the second half.

“We really didn’t come out in the right frame of mind,” said Killinger. “Which, is obviously difficult to do when you have already played an opponent once and defeated them, but once we got going I was pretty happy with our ball movement and ability to get consecutive stops. We fouled too much in the second half, but other than that I was pretty pleased with our effort on both ends of the court.”

George and Brianna Perry led MACC with 14 points each and were joined in double figures by Angelica Wiggins, who scored 12, and Sentreal Gregory, who added 11. Wiggins also grabbed seven rebounds, while Gregory handed out six assists. Alexis Henry just missed a double-double with nine points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists. Lunden Henry had eight points and five rebounds, while TrEl’Shawn Smith had eight points and four assists.
