MACC Esports: Building a Community of Competitive Gamers
MACC Esports recently joined together offline for the first time, marking the end of a fantastic summer where they excelled in collegiate play. The five official teams gathered to celebrate the progress achieved collectively. From the Super Smash Bros Ultimate player's unbeaten streak to the Overwatch 2 team's emotional journey facing schools nationwide, the entire group engaged in discussions about the future of MACC Esports. The primary objective is to expand Esports within MACC and the broader community, nurturing top-tier competitive collegiate teams alongside community-driven teams that welcome individuals from all backgrounds, including students, staff, friends, and those passionate about competitive gaming.
Currently, our student/community teams focus on League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Valorant, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. With increasing interest, we are open to expanding into other popular games with enough participants. The collegiate teams are committed to actively engaging in NJCAAE-sanctioned events and local tournaments throughout Missouri. Plans are underway to host tournaments on MACC campuses and potentially organize community events at local venues. As the new school year commences, efforts are ongoing to expand both student rosters and community teams, with intentions to introduce scholarships, coaching camps, and a series of community outreach events. If you are interested, we invite you to complete an interest survey (https://www.macc.edu/esports/) to join the team, whether for recreational fun or to enhance your competitive skills. Spread the word and consider joining — MACC Esports is a vibrant community ready to welcome you!
