MOBERLY GREYHOUNDS DEFEAT MISSOURI STATE WEST PLAINS 70-62
#13 Ranked Greyhounds win 19th out of 20 games
The Moberly Area Community College Men's Basketball Team went on the road and defeated the Missouri State-West Plains Grizzlies 72-60 on Wednesday, February 5. Moberly jumped out to a 35-23 lead and ended up getting the victory behind 17 points each by sophomore wings Latrell Kyles and Thomas Diew.
Returning sophomores Ade Poppola added 15 points and 8 rebounds along with Javaris Moye scoring 14 points while gathering 12 rebounds.
Moberly had an 18-game winning streak that ended with a 61-75 loss at Three Rivers on Saturday, February 1. MACC faced a 21-34 deficit at the half that the Hounds were unable to overcome en route to losing their first game in 10 weeks.
"I was pleased the way our players and team came back at West Plains," said Coach Patrick Smith. "It's very difficult to win 18 consecutive games, especially against the schedule we've played. However, as disappointed as I am with the loss at Three Rivers, it was a tremendous game to learn from as we go forward and face our remaining schedule. Our Region is very competitive this season and we must be willing to be obsessed with improvement while seeking the next level of play and consistency. We must continually be on an upward level of progress as we finish the regular season and prepare for post season play. So many things we can still do better and more consistently and we must practice at that level."
Moberly currently has a 21-4 record while winning 19 of their last 20 games and are ranked #13 in the latest NJCAA National Poll. The Greyhounds are currently 7-1 in Region 16 competition and will return to action at home on Saturday, Feb. 15 against State Fair CC with game time at 7:00 pm.
