#20 Ranked Greyhounds Defeat Southeastern Iowa
MACC to host Thanksgiving Classic
The #20 nationally ranked Moberly Area Community College Men's Basketball team defeated Southeastern Iowa CC 92–82 on Saturday evening at Fitzsimmons-John Arena on the MACC campus. The Greyhounds opened a 50–28 halftime lead, and the margin never dropped below 10 points for the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore guard Lavonta Ivery led the Hounds with 23 points (4–8 from three-point range). Freshman guard Caleb Estes added 16 points (4–9 from behind the arc), while 6'5" freshman forward Shaunassey Hatchett contributed 15 points, 11 deflections, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocked shots. Sophomore post players Josh Lowe and Rony Mbandou added 12 and 10 points, respectively, and sophomore point guard Jayden Banks recorded 7 assists.
"Tremendous team win, and we really played all three aspects of the game so well in the first half," said Coach Patrick Smith. "Lots of credit to Coach Watkins and SE Iowa, as they played very well offensively in the second half. However, we've got to be more consistent to eliminate the bad possessions on defense and the lost possessions on offense. We have to continue moving toward being a 40-minute ballclub that doesn't allow opponents to make runs and stays true to what we define as Greyhound Basketball. But overall, it was a very good win with lots of really good play, and now it's on to two very good opponents in our Thanksgiving Classic."
Moberly currently stands 7–1 on the season and will host the MACC Thanksgiving Classic on November 28–29 on the Moberly campus. The Lady Greyhounds will play Friday at 5 p.m. vs. Sauk Valley and then face Wabash Valley on Saturday at 5 p.m. The men's squad will play Southwestern Illinois CC at 7 p.m. on Friday and take on Highland (IL) on Saturday at 7 p.m.
