Greyhound Softball Regional Tournament Recap

The Greyhounds entered the Region 16 Tournament as the 3rd seed after tying for 2nd with their regular season record. However, Mineral Area won the 2nd seed through a tiebreaker, leaving the Greyhounds with the 3rd seed.

In the opening round against Mineral Area, the Greyhounds secured a thrilling 5-4 victory in 8 innings. Mady Klostermann delivered a stellar performance on the mound, pitching a complete game and earning the win. Mackenzie Keller's impressive 2-run home run in the 3rd inning tied the game. Although Mineral Area briefly took the lead in the bottom of the 6th, the Greyhounds retaliated, tying the game in the top of the 7th before ultimately taking the lead in the top of the 8th. Klostermann sealed the victory with a flawless 1-2-3 inning.

The team's second game was against St. Louis Community College, which was suspended due to rain in the 4th inning, with the Greyhounds trailing 0-3. The game resumed the next day, but despite their efforts to rally, the Greyhounds fell to St. Louis 1-6. As a result of this loss, they were relegated to the losers' side of the bracket, where they faced East Central College with a spot in the championship game at stake.

In a decisive game against East Central College, the Greyhounds quickly took the lead and held on to secure a 5-1 victory. Klostermann once again showcased her talent in the circle, earning the win and achieving a significant milestone by recording her 200th strikeout of the season. Gracey Jordan, Mackenzie Keller, Mackenzie Roofener, and Evyn Howell all had outstanding performances at the plate, each delivering 2 hits.

However, the Greyhounds faced a tough challenge in the Championship Game against St. Louis and were unable to maintain their momentum, resulting in an 0-8 defeat.

Despite the final loss, the Greyhounds had an impressive tournament, demonstrating their potential and leaving a lasting impact on Greyhound Softball. Finishing 2nd in the region in only the 2nd year of the program was a significant achievement. The team's hard work, determination, and ability to overcome adversity throughout the season were commendable, and coach, Matt Bauer, expressed great pride in their performance. Mady Klostermann and Mackenzie Keller's outstanding contributions were recognized with their selection to the All Region Team, further showcasing the team's accomplishments.
