Wills Earns Second Straight Region 16 Player of the Week Honor After Record-Breaking Performance
The MACC Greyhounds women's basketball team is celebrating another major honor as freshman standout Nila Wills has been named Region 16 Player of the Week for the second consecutive week following a historic outing against Crowder College Roughriders on Saturday.
The Chicago, Illinois native delivered a dominant performance in MACC's 89-79 victory, pouring in 41 points and pulling down 22 rebounds to lead the Greyhounds to the conference win. In the process, Wills set a new school record with 21 made free throws and tied for the fifth-largest single-game point total in program history with 41.
As a team, Moberly was nearly automatic at the line, converting 37 of 43 free throw attempts. Wills went 21 of 25 from the stripe, while Abby Thivierge added 21 points of her own and finished 9 of 10 from the free throw line. Kathlynn Samuel also made her presence felt on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds to help MACC control the boards.
Wills has been a steady presence for the Greyhounds all season, playing in all 28 games and averaging 13 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest. She has elevated her game in recent weeks, recording 18 points and nine rebounds against Three Rivers College Raiders on February 11 and adding 26 points with 19 rebounds against Mineral Area College Cardinals on February 7.
MACC currently stands at 13-15 overall and 2-8 in Region 16 play. The Greyhounds will get a short break before returning to the court to face State Fair Community College Roadrunners on Wednesday, February 25.
With Wills leading the charge, the Greyhounds look to build momentum as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.
